Movement Upward
2022, Woollahra Gallery, Woollahra, NSW
Movement Upward makes reference to the ever-present movement of plants and the hypnotic rhythm of their growth. The undulation of things growing skyward and eventual decay is highlighted in the deliberate confines of a garden. This acute awareness and attention to Nature leads us to consider our place in the landscape we inhabit, and possibly to a greater extent, ourselves as people. I believe a gardening mindset not only generates joy and a connection to Nature for individuals but also has the capacity to broaden our sense of community and cooperative living.
The works in this exhibition include acrylic and oil paintings on stretched canvas ranging between 112 x 92 cm, 76 x 61 cm, and 51 x 41 cm, and framed watercolour monotypes approx 40 x 33 cm.
